Amazon PPC budget calculator

To hit a daily order goal you need enough clicks, and clicks cost money. Daily budget = orders wanted ÷ conversion rate × average CPC. Enter your numbers to see the daily and monthly budget, and the ACoS that budget implies.

The formula

Clicks needed per day
orders per day ÷ conversion rate
Daily budget
clicks needed × average CPC
Monthly budget
daily budget × 30.4
Implied ACoS
average CPC ÷ (conversion rate × price) × 100

Start from the outcome you want, such as five ad orders a day, then work backward. Your conversion rate tells you how many clicks that takes, and your average CPC tells you what those clicks cost.

The implied ACoS is a sanity check. If it's above your break-even ACoS, the budget will buy the orders but lose money on them; you'll need a better conversion rate or lower CPC first.

Set campaign daily budgets a little above the estimate. Amazon can spend more than the daily budget on a single day (it averages over the month), and campaigns that run out of budget early miss the evening hours when many shoppers buy.

Worked example

  1. Goal: 5 ad orders a day. Average CPC $1.00, conversion rate 10%, price $30.
  2. Clicks needed = 5 ÷ 0.10 = 50 clicks a day.
  3. Daily budget = 50 × $1.00 = $50; monthly ≈ $50 × 30.4 = $1,520.
  4. Implied ACoS = $1.00 ÷ (0.10 × $30) × 100 = 33.3%.

Plan on about $50 a day ($1,520 a month), which should produce about $150 a day in ad sales at a 33% ACoS.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I spend on Amazon PPC?

Work backward from an order or sales goal using your CPC and conversion rate, then check that the implied ACoS is below your break-even ACoS. Many sellers also cap total ad spend as a share of revenue (TACoS).

Why does my campaign run out of budget early?

Bids are high relative to the budget, or a broad or auto campaign is spending on many search terms. Raise the budget on profitable campaigns, or lower bids and add negatives on the rest.

Can Amazon spend more than my daily budget?

Yes. Amazon may spend more than your daily budget on a given day, but says it won't exceed your daily budget times the days in the calendar month. Check Amazon Ads' current budget rules for details.
